Garage to Plant Room Conversion

December 2024

This 1930s property in the South Lakes has undergone a lot of changes since Fern Renewables began work on it at the start of the summer in 2024.

One of our first jobs was to convert the existing attached garage into a plant room and cloak room.

First, the front elevation of the garage was converted from a garage door into an external wall with doorway and a window into the cloakroom. Next, the height of the garage floor had to be raised to bring it into line with the rest of the property, allowing level access once inside. New steps were added to a burnt cedar-clad front, carefully allowing for ample venting around the base of the plant room.

Inside, the plant room was made ready with a Tesla Power Wall, and provision for air source heat pump installation. The outgoing oil-powered boiler and hot water tank are now ready to be lifted onto the new floor once the air source heat pump is fitted.

To add to the extensive list of renewable energy improvements, Fern Renewables installed an Ohme EV charging point, allowing the owners to take advantage of solar PV charging (driving on sunshine is always a rewarding experience!), as well as making use of cheap overnight energy tariffs for electric vehicles.
