Tesla Power Wall Installation
January 2025
As part of a larger project to design and install several renewable energy sources to a property in the South Lakes, between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands, Fern Renewables installed a Tesla Power Wall to store the energy created by our recent solar array installation at the property.
In order to maximise solar PV output for this property, a Solar iBoost immersion controller was also fitted. The iBoost device works by diverting excess solar energy into an immersion heater to heat your hot water cylinder, ensuring no renewable energy goes to waste and potentially saving hundreds of pounds in energy costs over its lifetime.
The Tesla Powerwall is a home battery system designed to store energy for use when needed, providing homeowners with energy independence, efficiency, and backup power.
Here are the key selling points of the Tesla Power Wall, though there are smaller capactiy and cheaper alternatives available, depending on your requirements:
1. Energy Storage and Self-Sufficiency
The Power Wall stores energy from solar panels or the grid, allowing homeowners to use stored energy during peak hours, power outages, or at night when solar panels aren't generating electricity. This reduces reliance on the traditional grid and enhances energy independence.
2. Backup Power During Outages
In the event of a power outage, the Powerwall automatically kicks in, providing seamless backup power. Unlike traditional generators, it operates silently, requires no fuel, and powers essential home appliances efficiently.
3. Cost Savings on Electricity Bills
By storing excess solar energy and using it during peak times when electricity rates are higher, Powerwall helps homeowners reduce their electricity bills. It can also be used to take advantage of time-of-use (TOU) pricing, storing energy when rates are low and using it when rates are high.
4. Seamless Integration with Solar Energy
Designed to work perfectly with solar panels, the Powerwall allows homeowners to maximize their use of renewable energy. Instead of sending excess solar power back to the grid, it can be stored and used later, increasing overall efficiency.
5. Smart Energy Management with the Tesla App
The Powerwall is integrated with the Tesla app, allowing users to monitor energy usage, track solar production, and control energy storage from anywhere. The app provides real-time insights, helping homeowners optimise their energy consumption.
6. Scalable for Higher Energy Needs
Homeowners can install multiple Power Walls to increase energy storage capacity based on their needs. This scalability makes it ideal for larger homes, businesses, or off-grid applications requiring more power.
7. Compact and Aesthetic Design
Unlike bulky traditional battery storage systems, the Powerwall features a sleek, wall-mounted design that saves space and blends well with modern home aesthetics. It is weather-resistant, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation.
8. Long Lifespan and Warranty
The Power Wall comes with a 10-year warranty, ensuring long-term reliability. Tesla’s lithium-ion battery technology is known for its durability and efficiency, providing consistent performance over time.
9. Environmentally Friendly
By maximising the use of renewable energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, the Power Wall contributes to a lower carbon footprint. It enables homeowners to store clean energy and use it efficiently, promoting sustainability.
Conclusion
The Tesla Powerwall is a cutting-edge energy storage solution that offers homeowners backup power, cost savings, energy independence, and smart energy management. Its sleek design, scalability, and seamless solar integration make it an attractive option for those looking to optimize their energy usage and reduce reliance on the traditional power grid.
